Jerry Léonide

Russell Malone

The winner of the 2013 Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition, Jerry Léonide began playing the piano and studying classical music at age eight. However, Léonide was quickly drawn to improvised music and discovered jazz standards with help from his father, a guitarist in their native island home of Mauritius.

At 17, Léonide left the island for Paris to follow his passion for music. Winning the Montreux piano competition in 2013 made it possible for him to record his first album. The Key, featuring both Mauritian rhythms and jazzy touches; it was released in August, 2014.
