Jack Joao Potter

Jack Joao Potter was born in the USA and raised in Brazil in a family that is deeply rooted in Afro Brazilian and Jazz culture.  His mother Edi Machado is a Afro Brazilian dancer and singer.  She was born and raised in Bahia Brazil where the African culture of Brazilian influences were all around her everyday.  

Jacks father Andrew Scott Potter is an American drummer and percussionist who immersed himself in the jazz tradition along with the cutting edge of American R&B starting in his home town of Chicago and then NYC.  His interest in Brazilian music and culture lured him to Rio where he met his wife Edi. It didn’t take long before Andy’s passion for Afro Brazilian music and culture ignited and he began his studies along with performances with Iconic musicians such as Elza Soares and Luizao Maia along with local Brazilian musicians.
