Hadouk Trio

A trio of multi-instrumentalists, the Hadouk Trio performs very unusual music that has limitless potential and bridges the gap between jazz and world music. Didier Malherbe plays the soprano sax, flutes, the bansuri, duduk (an Armenian oboe), ocarina and the khene. In his earlier career he co-founded Gong and also worked with Robert Wyatt and Pierre Bensusan. Loy Ehrlich performs on keyboards, the hajou (which has similarities to a bass), kora, sanza, mbira and gumbass, in addition to being an arranger and producer. He has worked with Youssou N’Dour, Touré Kunda, Geoffrey Oryema and Peter Gabriel. American Steve Shehan, who has added color and exotic rhythms to the music of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, John McLaughlin, Paul McCartney, Brian Eno and others, performs on a wide variety of African, Asian and Brazilian percussion instruments including the djembe, congas, sanza, derbouka and the hadgini. The Hadouk Trio, which has been together for over a decade, not only crosses over into jazz and world music but ambient, lounge, pop and classical music. While their unpredictable musical journeys can make one think of the Art Ensemble of Chicago or Oregon, the Hadouk Trio has its own sound, atmospheres and musical missions. Its most recent release is a CD+DVD called Baldamore.
