Greater Hartford Academy’s Jazz Ensemble

The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts offers college preparatory arts training to high school students. It offers a curriculum in four concentrations: Drama, Dance, Creative Writing and Music (Vocal or Instrumental). Located in Hartford, Conn., on the campus of the Learning Corridor, it is open to high school students through auditions. Its faculty is comprised of professional musicians with the best known jazz players being bassist Paul Brown, saxophonist Jimmy Greene and percussionist Gene Bozzi, who is the department chair in music. Selected students have opportunities to play with the Greater Hartford Academy’s Jazz Ensemble in concerts that take place away from the campus, and, not too surprisingly, they display youthful energy and a great deal of future potential.
