Elias Stemeseder

Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1990, Elias Stemeseder moved to Berlin in 2010 to study under the guidance of Tino Derado, Greg Cohen, John Hollenbeck and Kurt Rosenwinkel. He currently lives and works in Berlin.

Since 2008 Elias has been working and studying extensively with the American drummer Jim Black. Completed by Thomas Morgan on double bass, the Jim Black Trio has so far released two recordings, „Somatic” (2011) and „Actuality” (2014) on the German label Winter&Winter. Alongside Jim Black and guitarist Nels Cline, Elias is also part of the collective power trio „Eyebone”, in which he plays the Wurlitzer piano and bass synthesizers.

As a solo performer he has performed at the Nuoro Jazz Festival (IT), Haus Der Berliner Festspiele (DE) and at the 2015 edition of the 12points Festival in Dublin (IRL).

Elias’ playing is featured on a number of releases by projects from both Europe and the USA (among those, „Anna Webber’s Percussive Mechanics” and Philipp Gropper’s „Philm”, as well as the collective trio „Jagged Spheres”). In addition, he has recently been working with Greg Cohen, Chris Tordini, Oskar Gudjonsson, Petter Eldh and Ellery Eskelin.
