Wynton and the LCJO Hit the Road

Wynton Marsalis (who never seems to take a good, long rest) will be travelling throughout Europe this winter with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. A string of concert dates from February 4th through March 9th, 2001 will have Marsalis and the LCJO playing in over a dozen cities including London, Cambridge, Milan, Dusseldorf, Munich and Berlin. In addition to performing music by jazz giants like Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus, portions of the tour will feature location-specific collaborations such as a concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The tour is not merely a series of concerts but a chance to enlighten hundreds of students, teachers and audience members through educational events such as workshops, Jazz for Young People programs, films, lectures, and open soundchecks. Speaking of the dates in England specifically, Marsalis said that “the extended series of concerts and educational events will allow us to make an impact in England that properly reflects the country’s great love of jazz.” The same could more than likely be said for the rest of the countries Marasalis and the LCJO will visit.
