Jazz writer Eric Nisenson died of kidney failure on August 15. He was 57.
The author of The Making of Kind of Blue, Round Midnight: A Portrait of Miles Davis, Open Sky: Sonny Rollins and His World of Improvisation and Ascension: John Coltrane and His Quest passed away in his suburban home in Malden, Mass. He had been ill for some time with a form of leukemia. The kidney failure is believed to have been caused by complications from his treatment for the disease.
Nisenson was writing a biography of Dave Brubeck, titled A Life of Jazz, and doing research for a book on Brazilian jazz at the time of his death.
He is survived by a brother.
