World Label Crammed to Recieve Wider U.S. Distribution

While Six Degrees has made some of Belgium-based world label Crammed Discs’ catalogue available in the United States, Crammed and Rykodisc recently announced an agreement for current Crammed titles not licensed by Six Degrees and for Crammed’s extensive back catalogue to be released in the United States.

The first Crammed titles released by Rykodisc included Konono No. 1’s acclaimed Congotronics (leader Mingiedi pictured), Aparelhagem from the Brazilian artist DJ Dolores, the self-titled debut of Gypsy band Mahala Rai Banda and Tuxedomoon’s Cabin in the Sky. The follow-up to Congotronics, the aptly titled Congotronics 2, features six bands from the Congolese region of Kinshasa, should be released in the United States in January.

Since its inception in 1981, Crammed has released albums by many influential world artists, including Bebel Gilberto, Zap Mama, Cibelle and Celso Fonseca.
