Wooten will Release New Album in April

After touring with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Bass Extremes and headlining his own tour throughout 2004, Victor Wooten is set to release his first solo album since 2001.

Soul Circus is set to be released on April 12 and is Wooten’s first release on Vanguard. According to Wooten, he’s happy at his new label. “Vanguard Records affords me the artistic freedom to move forward with my music,” he said in a press release.

Soul Circus, Wooten’s fifth studio album, features numerous guest artists including the Wooten brothers, Bootsy Collins, Arrested Development rapper/vocalist Speech, Howard Levy, Dennis Chambers, Jeff Coffin, Will Lee and Rhonda Smith.

The album features songs like “Natives,” which takes a look at the Native American past; “Bass Tribute,” which pays homage to great bassists both past and present; and “Higher Law,” which is rock-funk anthem.

Wooten is perhaps best known for his solo recordings and for his membership in Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. He is also a composer, arranger, producer and vocalist.

Wooten plans to follow up Soul Circus with an extensive tour of the U.S. starting off March 17 in South Burlington, Vt.
