Wolf Trap Announces Faces of America

Wolf Trap, a Northern Virginia venue and partnership between the Wolf Trap Foundation and the National Park Service, announced its 2001 performers for this year’s Faces of America show. The Faces of America series, which began in 2000 with a celebration of Yosemite National Park, will commit $2.5 million dollars over the next five years to commission artists of all kinds to create site-specific performances in honor of America’s National Parks.

This year’s event takes place September 8 and features jazz trombonist Steve Turre (pictured left) and his group Sanctified Shells, Donald Byrd/The Group and storyteller Alice McGill. The multimedia event also includes an island-themed dance by choreographer Ronald K. Brown and Evidence, and a giant-screen projection of U.S. Virgin Islands National Park and Coral Reef Monument featuring a performance by the U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swim Team.
