The longest-running campus-based jazz concert series in the country is back this fall with its 2007 season of the Jazz Room at William Paterson University. This 30th season, which begins Sept. 30, will see performances from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, legendary saxophonist Jimmy Heath (pictured) and the Bill Lee Quintet, among others.
Created in 1978, the Jazz Room is one of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events in the country. Concerts begin at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoons in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on William Paterson’s campus, but jazz fans can also attend informal jazz talks with the afternoon’s performers an hour before the concerts begin, and are treated to a performance from a student jazz ensemble before every concert.
Tickets to each Jazz Room concert cost $15, but $12 tickets are available for senior citizens and $8 tickets are available for students. To buy tickets, call the Shea Center for Performing Arts Box Office at 973-720-2371.
