WBGO to Broadcast Charlap Performance

Pianist Bill Charlap (pictured) has a new album in stores this week, the standards-heavy Somewhere: The Songs Of Leonard Bernstein. We reported that news last month and told you that it’s an album of classic Bernstein tunes, natch, with Charlap’s longstanding, non-related trio-mates, Peter Washington (bass) and Kenny Washington (drums), providing support. None of that has changed, we’re just here today to tell you about Charlap’s upcoming live radio broadcast on WBGO-FM.

The pianist and his band mates will play live at J&R Music World in lower Manhattan this Saturday, March 27, from 4 to 5 p.m. and Newark, N.J.-based WBGO will send the music out over the air, no doubt with an indecency-deleting, seven-second delay in effect. Not that Charlap needs one. To listen, tune in at 88.3 on your FM dial.

I can already hear many of you whining: “But I don’t live within range of WBGO.” That doesn’t matter. If you have an Internet connection-and, if you’re reading this, chances are good that you do-you can listen to Charlap’s performance via streaming audio from WBGO’s Web site, www.wbgo.org. In fact, you can listen to WBGO anytime over the Web. In fact, you can listen to most radio stations over the Web. Google one up, you’ll see.
