WBGO Re-broadcasts Love

In case you missed the original, Thanksgiving Day broadcast of WBGO-produced documentary A Love Supreme, the station will re-broadcast the program twice this month, on both the radio and Internet. The repeat broadcasts are the result of a public demanding to hear the show again and will air Fri., Feb. 14 at noon (Valentine’s Day—get it?) and Sat., Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.

A Love Supreme is, of course, a documentary on the John Coltrane album of the same name and is hosted by rapper Mos Def. Frequent JazzTimes contributor Ashley Kahn, who wrote the recent book A Love Supreme: The Making of John Coltrane’s Signature Album, conducted many of the interviews heard throughout the two-hour program, including commentary on the album by Coltrane’s window Alice, Love session band members McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones, and friends and admirers like Archie Shepp, Carlos Santana, Branford Marsalis.

WBGO broadcasts from Newark, N.J., serves the New York City area and is located at 88.3 on the FM dial. The station’s Web site, wbgo.org, will stream the A Love Supreme documentary at the same time it airs on FM.
