Yesterday we received a missive from Newark New Jersey’s WBGO-FM in the JT News inbox (a seemingly bottomless deposit of industry information) concerning a Saturday concert series for children the radio station is sponsoring. The shows are free and the shows are jazz. But it starts today, and unless you are reading this before noon or so, EST, you have already missed Latin jazz pianist Hilton Ruiz at the Newark Museum.
Don’t feel too bad, you can still take the kids to the next three concerts in the series:
April 12 – Vocalist Roseanna Vitro at the East Orange Public Library, 2nd Floor, 21 South Arlington St., East Organe, N.J.
April 26 – Pianist Cyrus Chestnut (pictured) at the Newark Museum, 49 Washington St., Newark, N.J.
May 3 – Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon at the Victoria Theater at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, 1 Center St., Newark, N.J.
Admission is free for every show, but adults must be accompanied by a child. For more info or for directions to any of the venues, call (973) 624-8880
