WBAI Salutes Dinah Washington

New York City’s Pacifica Radio station, WBAI 99.5 FM, finished its on-air fundraising last week. What that means is that you can listen to this Sunday’s “Great Ladies of Jazz” program without being hounded for cash (we assume that you’ll, like us, fork over what you can of your own accord). What’s more, non-New Yorkers, like us, can still listen to the broadcast, as it will be streamed over the Web. The Internet is cool like that.

The program’s actual name is Everything Old is New Again, and this special, she-jazz installment is dedicated to singer Dinah Washington (pictured). We’re promised spins of “This Bitter Earth,” “Mad About The Boy,” “Nothing Ever Changes My Love For You,” “I Believe” (as a duet with R&B lady killa Brook Benton), and Washington’s biggest hit, “What A Diff’rence A Day Makes.”

And seriously, if you love the tune “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” you had better tune in. They’re going to play four diff’rent versions of it, though one version is sung by Barbra Streisand. (Yikes!)

Everything Old is New Again starts at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 1 and runs for two hours. To tune in via Internet, hit up www.2600.com/offthehook/hot2.ram. The program’s own Web site is at http://www.oldisnew.org.
