Wayne Shorter Brings Home the Beacon

On March 12 Wayne Shorter’s name will be added to the New School University’s growing list of Beacons of Jazz award recipients. He’ll get a free meal too.

Since 1986 the New School’s Jazz and Contemporary Music Program has recognized musicians (like Phil Woods, Jackie McLean and Milt Hinton) and industry leaders (like George and Joyce Wein) whose work has contributed significantly to the evolution of jazz. Shorter will receive his award after sipping on cocktails and stuffing his face at a gala event at Manhattan’s Supper Club.

The gala will also serve as a fundraising event; the New School will be accepting donations from event attendees to be used for New School Jazz Program student scholarships.
