Vohn Regensburger/Waldyr Menezes: In a Brazilian Mood

When Flora Purim says that this is music that “makes me proud to be a Brazilian,” it makes sense to pay attention. Indeed, luxuriant tracks such as “Rio’s Love Song” and “Tributo a Jobim” make one grateful that there is a Brazil! The langourous intertwinings of the leaders’ guitars and voices are sublime. Regensburger’s sparse string writing is another plus. So, too, the understated playing of saxman/flutist Nelson Rangell, pianist Alosio Aguiar, bassist Octavio Bailly, drummer Claudio Slon and percossionist Airto Moreira. Ah, Ipanema!
