Verve Releases Live Krall Date

Back in March we reported that Eagle Vision was releasing a DVD of Diana Krall’s Dec. 1, 2001 performance at Paris’ Olympia theater. Krall fans without DVD players will be happy to know that Verve is bringing that concert date to the old-fashioned compact disc format in October.

Diana Krall – Live in Paris is the singer/pianist’s first live recording and features guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton playing tunes like “East of the Sun (West of the Moon)” and “Devil May Care.” The quartet is joined by guests like guitarist John Pisano and percussionist Paulinho DaCosta on a few tracks, including the Gershwins’ “S’wonderful.” Recalling the orchestral sound of Krall’s most recent studio effort, The Look of Love, the Orchestre Symphonique Europeen is featured on “Let’s Fall in Love” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” And Krall collectors will note that the forthcoming CD includes “Fly Me to the Moon,” a tune played at the Olympia but mysteriously left off Eagle’s DVD. And as if that weren’t already enough, Live in Paris also includes a bonus track: Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are,” taken from the upcoming soundtrack to the film The Guru.
