Various Artists: Tribute To Elmore James

More ripping guitars can be heard on the fine compilation Tribute To Elmore James (Priority, 55:16). Everyone from Johnny Winter to Albert King and Homesick James are featured on this collection of tunes by the slide guitar legend. The Bluebirds from Shreveport, Louisiana turn in a faithful version of Elmore’s most-recorded tune, “Dust My Broom,” while Tony Sarno rocks out on a modernized “Talk To Me Baby.” Other highlights include the Allman Brothers’ 1971 performance of “One Way Out” at the Fillmore East, Fred James’ raunchy rendition of “Whose Muddy Shoes” and Texan Alan Haynes’ slick slide work on “My Bleeding Heart.”
