Various Artists: Sisters, Women’s Music from Celestial Harmonies

Sisters, Women’s Music from Celestial Harmonies (Celestial Harmonies 13131; 72:48) is an effectively eclectic collection of tracks, brought up from the label’s vaults. The range includes the Canadian/African group Takadja, Tibetan bell specialist Nancy Hennings, West Javan vocalist Ida Wadawati, the entrancing Vietnamese music from the Hue Traditional Art Troupe, and music by medieval composer Hildegard von Bingen as interpreted by Sinfonye. All in all, a fine album, the variety of which makes a statement about musical universality.
