Van Morrison Signs With Blue Note

The legendary Irish singer Van Morrison (shown here imitating Jake Blues; where’s Elwood?) has signed a worldwide deal with Blue Note. His debut for the label, What’s Wrong With This Picture, will be hitting shops on October 21, and the CD reportedly draws upon blues and jazz and whatever else Mr. Morrison chooses to apply his pretty pipes to.

This isn’t the Van’s first fling with a jazz label, however. He released two CDs for Verve in 1996: How Long Has This Been Going On and Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison. Morrison’s last CD was 2002’s Down the Road (Universal), and like he has done throughout his career, the album featured R&B, jazz, folk and country. Hey, it worked for Norah Jones.

Ol’ Van doesn’t seem to have himself one of those new-fangled Web sites or anything, but there are plenty of fan sites out there if you’re itchin’ for more Morrison. The Van Morrison Web Site might sound like it’s official, but it’s not. However, it’s so chocked full of nuggets it might as well be. Another place to check out is Wavelength, which is the unofficial mag devoted to the Celtic crooner.
