UConn Offers Jazz Degree

Beginning in the fall, 2003 semester, the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts in Storrs, Conn. will offer a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in jazz studies. UConn’s jazz program will be highly selective and much smaller than comparable programs at most other institutions of higher learning.

Admission to the program will be by audition and about five students will be chosen to enroll in the jazz classes where individual attention and close monitoring by the faculty will be given. The goals in creating such small classes are to both help the university attract the finest young players available and to then offer each many performance opportunities.
