UCLA Live’s 2005-2006 Season Features Alice Coltrane

California has the best of everything, most notably a bodybuilder/actor governor, and UCLA’s 2005-2006 Live Jazz season is no exception.

The season begins Oct. 22 with the Omar Sosa Quartet and special guest Will Power in a concert that will highlight the group’s trademark Latin-urban jazz sound. On Oct. 25, Grammy-award winning bassist Marcus Miller will make his UCLA Live debut in a double bill with R&B singer Lalah Hathaway.

While not officially part of the Jazz series, UCLA Live will host a tribute to Billie Holiday on Oct. 28. “Billie & Me” will feature performances by Dianne Reeves, Fontella Bass, Rokia Traore and Terri Lyne Carrington.

Continuing the Jazz series is a Nov. 20 performance by pianist Ahmad Jamal and concluding the 2005-2006 UCLA Live Jazz season is a performance on Feb. 18 by Alice Coltrane (pictured) in a bill with the Dwight Trible Quintet.

Series tickets are on sale now and purchasers will receive priority seating until July 15, as well as a substantial discount. Single tickets and Choose Your Own Subscriptions will go on sale July 18. UCLA students have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets in advance and all students are eligible for student rush tickets, which may purchased the day of the show, one hour prior to show time. Tickets are available online at and, beginning July 18, through Ticketmaster.
