Together 20 years as a musical (and wedded) duo, Tuck Andress and Patti Cathcart continue to express joy through song.
Of the 13 tracks, Patti’s best are “When We’re Alone,” a super-scatted version of Clifford Brown’s “Joy Spring,” and her glorious reading of Minnie Ripperton’s “Captain for Dark Mornings.” Tuck soars on a superb multi-textured solo flight of “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
In a departure from past albums, Tuck’s guitar expertise and Patti’s ethereal vocals are supplemented by other musicians. Saxophonist Mark Miller and percussionist David Frazier are added to the Brazilian-flavored “Lembrancas,” and a doo-wop vocal group called The Blenders enriches Patti’s pop-soul deliveries of “All This Love” and “Dance With Me.” Norton Buffalo plays harmonica on a funky “You.”
