Trio Da Paz: Partido Out

There’s fine bass playing, by Nilson Matta, on the latest Trio da Paz release. There’s also the virtuoso guitar work of Romero Lubambo, and the percussion of Duduka Da Fonseca. The ten ballads and mid-tempo numbers showcase the trio’s pristine sound. The title cut is based on an Afro-Brazilian rhythm called “partido alto” with an unusual 12/8 meter. On “P’ro Flavio,” a rhythm from Recife, in northeast Brazil, Matta plays bowed bass and Lubambo berimbau. The trio’s perfect technique achieves a peaceful effect.
