On April 4, Dana Point, Calif. will play host to a tribute concert for the late crossover-jazz saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. (pictured).
Groovin’ for Grover, a supergroup of smooth-jazz talent that includes saxophonists Richard Elliott, Paul Taylor and Gerald Albright, plus keyboardist Jeff Lorber will honor Washington as part of the Third Annual Sunset Jazz Series at Dana Point’s St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa. The three-hour concert starts at 4 p.m. and will be split into two sets. During set one, the guys will plays hits from their individual albums; set two is the Grover Washington Jr. set, filled with tunes from all points in his career and complemented by a multimedia production with video clips, photos from Washington’s life. After the concert all of the artists will meet the fans. Dana Point is a beach town located roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego in Southern California.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Grover Washington Jr. Protect the Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the musical interests and skills of young people. Reserved tickets are $38, VIP tickets are $65 with seating in the first 10 rows, and Gold tickets are $100 with seating at private tables, including wine and other beverages.
