Tranquility Jazz Festival Announced

The Anguilla Tourist Board recently announced that the second annual Tranquility Jazz Festival is scheduled to run from November 10-14, in Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory bounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Produced by BET Event Productions, the Tranquility Jazz Festival will include performances by Cyrus Chestnut (pictured), Ray Baretto, Carmen Lundy, Flora Purim and Airto, as well as some of the island and region’s musicians.

Performances will be held each evening at the Cuisinart Resort and the LA Cafe, and the festival’s grand finale, a jazz beach party, will be held at Sandy Ground.

“This event provides us with a great opportunity to communicate the beauty of our beaches, the friendliness of our people, and the exclusive charm of our overall destination,” says Anguilla’s director of tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch states. “We look forward to providing jazz lovers with an extraordinary setting in which to enjoy some of today’s legendary artists.”

Pianist Chestnut will play in a trio featuring vocalist Carla Cook, while percussionist/bandleader Barretto will be part of a “Latin Jazz Explosion” show that will include Brazilian vocal/percussion duo Flora Purim and Airto. The festival will also feature sets by the Mingus Dynasty Big Band and saxophonist/flutist James Spaulding. Among the regional artists slated to perform are the Anguilla Jazz Ensemble, St. Lucian guitarist Boo Hinkson and Trinidadian guitarist Michael Boothman.

The Cuisinart Resort & Spa and Intimate Paradise Cove will serve as the host hotels for the festival. Travel packages for the Tranquility Jazz Festival are available through Alken Tours and GoGo Tours. For more information on artist listings and events, visit www.anguillajazz.org.
