The latest record from Tony Bennett will go on sale Sept. 25, but eager fans can get a sneak peek on Saturday, Sept. 1 when the legendary crooner appears on QVC’s Q Sessions Live for a special concert. Performing in Bennett Studios in Englewood, N. J., Bennett will preview songs from his forthcoming album Tony Bennett Sings the Ultimate American Songbook, Volume 1, as well as sing a number of his classic tunes.
Viewers will be able to place advance orders on QVC during the show, during which Bennett will also discuss his new album and the inspiration behind it. The Ultimate American Songbook, Vol. 1 features a special five-track bonus CD in addition to the 15-song compilation created especially for QVC, which can be ordered at the QVC Web site or by calling 800.340.1515.
In other TV-related Tony Bennett news, PBS will air a special about the 81-year old singer on Sept. 12 as part of its American Masters series, entitled The Music Never Ends.

Jonathan Butler: The Simple Life
Jonathan Butler’s optimistic music belies a dirt-poor childhood growing up in a South Africa segregated by apartheid. Live in South Africa, a new CD and DVD package, presents a sense of the resulting inner turmoil, mixed with dogged resolve, that paved the way to his status as an icon in his country and successful musician outside of it. Looking back, the 46-year-old Butler says today, the driving forces that led to his overcoming apartheid-the formal policy of racial separation and economic discrimination finally dismantled in 1993-were family, faith and abundant talent.
“When we were kids, our parents never talked about the ANC [African National Congress] or Nelson Mandela,” he says. Butler was raised as the youngest child in a large family. They lived in a house patched together by corrugated tin and cardboard, in the “coloreds only” township of Athlone near Cape Town. “They never talked about struggles so we never knew what was happening.”
