Members of the jazz community in Toledo, Ohio are crossing their fingers in hopes that they will one day cross the Maumee River on the Art Tatum Bridge. A major bridge construction project on I-280 has the Maumee River Crossing Task Force asking the public to supply a fitting name for the unfinished landmark. This is a no-brainer for area jazz fans who want the bridge named after Toledo-born piano giant Art Tatum. Tatum began playing professionally in Toledo in the mid-1920s and hosted a local radio program from 1929-1930.
