Telarc Gets Its Props

Telarc Records is riding a hit streak. After winning a Grammy for the Sting track “She Walks this Earth” from the album A Love Affair – The Music of Ivan Lins, the label was named “Independent Jazz Label of the Year” at the Gavin Radio Convention on February 28. The label scored four number one records on Gavin’s weekly chart in 2000 with recordings by McCoy Tyner, Ray Brown, Steve Turre, and Benny Green. The Cleveland-based label has also signed bassist Marcus Miller and is planning to release his first studio album since 1994.

The album, M2, is due out in May and features appearances from 18 guests including James Carter, Maceo Parker, Chaka Khan, Branford Marsalis, and Wayne Shorter.
