It’s the group’s first CD in four years, and it was originally intended as a Warner Bros. project of 13 cover tunes with a smooth-jazz instrumental backing. Although the instrumentation made the music more accessible, it’s obvious that Take 6’s a cappella is here to stay.

Today’s neo-soul bestsellers could probably learn a thing or two from the fabulous vocal interplay between Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent, Claude V. McKnight III, David Thomas, Joey Kibble and Mark Kibble, who in the early 1990s helped pave the way for boy-band soul groups such as Boyz II Men.
