Take 6: Feels Good

Take 6

Fans of eight-time Grammy winners Take 6 will rejoice to the heavens with the group’s return to its a cappella roots on the band’s first CD for its own Take 6 label. It’s the group’s first CD in four years, and it was originally intended as a Warner Bros. project of 13 cover tunes with a smooth-jazz instrumental backing. Although the instrumentation made the music more accessible, it’s obvious that Take 6’s a cappella is here to stay.

So what you’ll find are 12 funky and uplifting tunes with strong ties to Take 6’s gospel roots and street-corner doo-wop. Today’s neo-soul bestsellers could probably learn a thing or two from the fabulous vocal interplay between Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent, Claude V. McKnight III, David Thomas, Joey Kibble and Mark Kibble, who in the early 1990s helped pave the way for boy-band soul groups such as Boyz II Men.
