St. Peter’s Honors Joe Henderson

After a productive career featuring a long period of obscurity and a brief burst of fame at the end, saxophonist Joe Henderson (pictured left) passed away last June 30. On Oct. 22 at 7:30 pm, Saint Peter’s Church in New York City will host “A Celebration of the Life and Music of Joe Henderson,” a tribute which will surely help to fix the memory of his music in the minds of the public.

The event, free and open to all who wish to attend, will feature performances by musicians like Kenny Barron, Gary Bartz, Joe Lovano and John Scofield and remembrances of Henderson’s character and career by people close to him while he was alive.

Donations in Joe Henderson’s memory can be sent to: Cardiology Unit/California Pacific Medical Center Foundation, 3700 California Street, First Floor, San Francisco, CA 94118.

Saint Peter’s Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, is located at 619 Lexington Ave. at 54th Street, next to the Citibank building. For more information on Saint Peter’s jazz programs, visit www.saintpeters.org.
