Soulive to Replace Arturo Sandoval at Telluride Festival

Soulive will replace trumpeter Arturo Sandoval at this year’s Telluride festival. Sandoval was scheduled to close the festival this Sunday, Aug. 5, but cancelled. Soulive will perform on the Colorado festival’s “John Scofield Town Park” stage from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Originally projected as the hip-hop generation’s old-school jazz organ trio, Soulive has increasingly indulged its penchant for golden-age R&B, soul and funk. The group was the first signing to the recently reactivated Stax label. Its soon-to-drop long-player, No Place Like Soul, features new vocalist Toussaint and is heavily indebted to Stax’s gritty soul legacy.
