Sonny Rollins’ Web site debuts rare footage for the saxophonist’s 77th birthday

Seven is one of the world’s most revered lucky numbers, and when Sonny Rollins turns 77 on Sept. 7 of this year-2007-Rollins fans will have found their lucky day.

Beginning today, in preparation for Rollins’ 50th Anniversary Concert at Carnegie Hall Sept.18, Rollins’ Web site will unveil broadcasts of rare performances the saxophonist has given over the years.

Web site visitors should expect to see new clips daily, and can look forward to rare footage, such as a June 2, 1956 gig with Rollins and the Max Roach/Clifford Brown All-Stars.

Other changes to Rollins’ new site-which debuted two years ago on Rollins’ 75th birthday-will include an engaging facelift, new content such as multimedia biography, an online shop and an expanded forum area for fans to discuss Rollins and his music. Visit sonnyrollins.com to see the changes-and the performances-for yourself.
