Dust off your sailing shoes. Haven Entertainment has set Jan. 31 to Feb. 5 as the dates for next year’s Smooth Music Cruise.
The cruise will feature performances by Norman Brown (pictured), Nick Colionne, Boney James, Mindi Abair, Larry Carlton and others. The 1,778-passenger Celebrity Century boards in Miami, hitting Key West, Coco Cay and the Bahamas along the way.
The cruise will feature autograph signings, artist interviews and late-night jam sessions (hosted by Colionne), in addition to standard headlining shows. In Coco Cay, the ship will dock for a private island beach party.
According to a press release, the Century features 314 private verandas, 14 sky suites and 174 concierge class staterooms, which include fresh flowers, a pillow menu, upgraded bathrooms and personalized stationery. The ship also features a grand piano club, a martini bar, a spa and a two-story dining room.
Other artists include Heather Headley, Acoustic Alchemy, Greg Adams, Steve Cole, Marion Meadows, Michael Lington, Shilts, Steve Oliver, Chieli Minucci, Alan Hewitt and Althea Rene.

Jonathan Butler: The Simple Life
Jonathan Butler’s optimistic music belies a dirt-poor childhood growing up in a South Africa segregated by apartheid. Live in South Africa, a new CD and DVD package, presents a sense of the resulting inner turmoil, mixed with dogged resolve, that paved the way to his status as an icon in his country and successful musician outside of it. Looking back, the 46-year-old Butler says today, the driving forces that led to his overcoming apartheid-the formal policy of racial separation and economic discrimination finally dismantled in 1993-were family, faith and abundant talent.
“When we were kids, our parents never talked about the ANC [African National Congress] or Nelson Mandela,” he says. Butler was raised as the youngest child in a large family. They lived in a house patched together by corrugated tin and cardboard, in the “coloreds only” township of Athlone near Cape Town. “They never talked about struggles so we never knew what was happening.”
