Smooth Jazz Cruise Will Feature Rufus with Chaka Khan, Others

Cruise-goers looking for attitude and style in their on-board entertainment can find it on the sixth annual Smooth Jazz Cruise from Jazz Cruises, LLC.

Hosted by smooth jazz personality and former NBA player Wayman Tisdale, the cruise departs from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 18 and stops at four different ports through Jan 25. Stops include San Juan, Puerto Rico, Santa Barbara de Samana and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, and the island of Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.

This year’s cruise includes a host of contemporary jazz and soul performers. Special guests include funk band Rufus (pictured), featuring Grammy-award winning singer Chaka Khan, and crooner Peabo Bryson.

Other artists include jazz saxophonists Gerald Albright and Kirk Whalum, horn player Tom Braxton, singer/songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Butler, Grammy-nominated keyboardist Jeff Lorber, soul and hip-hop saxophonist Everette Harp, funk saxophonist Euge Groove, smooth jazz keyboardist Brian Simpson, blues guitarist Jeff Golub, guitarist Peter White, and gypsy-pop duo Willie and Lobo.

The cruise takes place aboard the luxury Holland America m/s Westerdam. Called “the best party at sea,” guests have the opportunity to chat onboard with their favorite musicians and catch theatre and club-setting performances throughout afternoons and evenings.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise is one of the four offered by Jazz Cruises, LLC.

“When we started doing jazz cruises our goal was to produce the finest music experience that we could and feature the finest musicians,” said Michael Lazaroff, Executive Director of Jazz Cruises, LLC, in a press release. “Our partnership with Wayman Tisdale is an excellent example of that philosophy.”
