Smooth Jazz Award Winners, 2002

Trumpeter Rick Braun (pictured left) was the big winner at the 3rd Annual National Smooth Jazz Awards held in San Diego on March 2. Braun’s latest album, Kisses In the Rain (Warner Bros.), seems to have captured both the attention and the hearts of the smooth jazz adjudicators; the trumpeter took home awards in five categories including Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.

Other winners include singer Sade, who won in two categories, percussionist Sheila E., bassist/pro basketball player Wayman Tisdale and celebrity singer/keyboardist Alicia Keys who won for Best New Artist of the Year.
