SF Celebrates Jazz & Blues

Celebrate a Legend, a series of jazz and blues concerts held annually in the San Francisco Bay Area, will kick off its 2003 season April 11-12 with two nights of music and celebration primarily dedicated to the blues. The concerts in this series are of course produced to entertain Bay Area music fans, but they also serve to honor blues and jazz greats, in this case Jimmy McGriff, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Little Milton, Sonny Rhodes, Eddie Bo and Earl Watkins. Surprise guests will find their way onstage each night as well. In addition, special awards will be presented to the family of guitarist John Lee Hooker, who died in 2001, Saul Zaentz of Fantasy Records (both on April 12) and Mike Kappus, founder of Rosebud Agency (on April 11).

The concerts take place at the San Francisco Bay Bridge Woodfin Suites in Emeryville, Calif. starting at 8 p.m. each night. A buffet dinner will be served. Both nights feature the same lineup. This is a non-profit event with no fixed price, a donation is mandatory. Seating is limited, please RSVP by calling (510) 324-2995 or (510) 471-6801, or by e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]
