Satchmo Born Again for Paradise Valley Jazz Party

The problem we faced of whether to celebrate the new millennium in 2000 or 2001 is a bit like the problem of whether to celebrate Satchmo’s 100th birthday in 2000 or 2001. See, we’re not quite sure if he was born in 1900 or 1901. The best answer to both problems might be to just go ahead and celebrate for another year. With this in mind, the 24th Annual Paradise Valley Jazz Party will begin on April 21st, 2001 and will feature 17 hours of music honoring Louis Armstrong and the music of New Orleans.

The event will be led by Preservation Hall leader Wendell Brunious, as he recreates the sounds and music of Armstrong and New Orleans with an all-star group of musicians. Held at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort, the event will feature other musical performances by pianists Ray Bryant and Dick Hyman, as well as Buddy DeFranco and many more. The setting for these performances will be more intimate and allow the audience a chance to get to know the performers and learn more about the music.

Seats will be limited and will definitely go fast, so order your tickets now. A $150 weekend badge grants access to all performances. Call the Scottsdale Hilton for preferred room rates at 1-800-145-8667 If you need further information, contact Don or Sue Miller at Paradise Valley Jazz Party 6014 Nauni Valley Dr., Paradise Valley, AZ 85253 Phone: 480-948-7993 Fax: 480-991-5732 E-mail: [email protected]
