Sally Stark: Sally Stark Sings Maxine Sullivan

Veteran of off-Broadway musicals, TV commercials, daytime dramas and slickly produced cruise ship revues, Sally Stark is a seasoned crowd-pleaser. She’s blessed with a big theatrical voice that has settled somewhere near the midpoint of Christine Ebersole and Ethel Merman, sweetened with a spoonful of Dinah Shore sunshine. It serves her well as she explores one of the great ladies of American song on her 10-track debut, Sally Stark Sings Maxine Sullivan (Sal Marg). Working alongside trumpeter Warren Vache (who frequently accompanied Sullivan), Stark imbues such gems as “Keepin’ Out of Mischief Now,” “Massachusetts,” “A Hundred Years From Today,” “It’s Crazy (But I’m in Love)” and the signature “Loch Lomand” with a breezy intimacy that effectively echoes Sullivan’s infectiously easy-going, unaffected appeal.
