Ryan Kisor: The Usual Suspects

Ryan Kisor has one of jazzdom’s most immediately recognizable and ear-grabbing trumpet sounds. Big, bold and brassy, it’s possessed with an immediacy and aura suggesting the human voice. For samples, check his conversational give-and-take while reflecting on Jerome Kern’s “Nobody Else But Me,” or his hortatory urgings in pursuit of “The Usual Suspects.” Rounding out Kisor’s engaging and simpatico quartet are pianist Peter Zak, bassist John Webber and drummer Willie Jones III.
