Rudy Linka: Lucky Southern

Recorded in 2001, the tracks on Lucky Southern (Quinton) feature Rudy Linka, along with John Scofield, John Abercrombie and drummer Kenny Wollesen. Bassist Dan Fabricatore fills out the varying ensembles. With the exception of a fluid acoustic treatment of “Golden Earrings” and an almost naive solo-acoustic arrangement of the title track, Linka penned all of the material with the other participants in mind. Highlights include “The Last Second” and “Killer John,” both with plenty of cool, interactive guitar work. Lucky Southern features very nice compositions and playing on the part of the leader, who came to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia in 1985.
