Rowan Jazz Festival Celebrates 35 Years

The Rowan Jazz Festival will celebrate its 35th anniversary with two evening concerts on Feb. 3 and 4. The concerts will feature guest artist Mike Tomaro and Rowan University’s own jazz student musicians. Tomaro, a musician, educator and composer, has worked with greats such as Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles, Linda Ronstadt and Johnny Mathis, among others.

The three-day festival, from Feb. 2-4, is presented by the Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies at Rowan and features daily workshops and clinics on performance and jazz education.

This year’s festival is dedicated to jazz legend Clem DeRosa, a well-known performer who at various times led the orchestras of Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey and Bert Kaempfert. DeRosa also served as an adjudicator for Rowan’s festival.

Tickets for the evening concerts on February 3 and 4 are $15 each. Call the box office at (856) 256-4545 for more information. Admission to the daily clinics and events is free and open to the public.
