Rocco Prestia in Need

Rocco Prestia, whose “fingerstyle funk” bass playing (as it came to be known) laid the foundation for the legendary funk-soul outfit Tower of Power, is suffering from Hepatitis C and excessive ammonia buildup. These complications have further caused him to develop diabetes.

Prestia is in urgent need of a liver transplant, and is currently hospitalized and awaiting a donor. The bills for his care exceed his coverage and ability to pay, and in turn, Tower of Power fans have organized a fund-raising campaign. All donations will be used to pay Prestia’s medical bills and some of his personal expenses, which include an estimated 9-12 months of post-operative care and anti-rejection medication.
Bass Player magazine has said of Prestia: “One of the most unmistakable sounds in all of bassdom is the driving, fleet-fingered funk laid down by Tower of Power great Francis Rocco Prestia III. Few, if any, have ever moved so much air while fitting so seamlessly into a groove and tastefully into an ensemble.”
