Robert Nighthawk: Live on Maxwell Street 1964

Slide guitar master Robert Nighthawk is captured in a relaxed, playful mood on Live on Maxwell Street, 1964. Recorded casually on a Sunday afternoon at an open-air market on Chicago’s West side, this rare document features raucous renditions of Big Joe Turner’s “Honey Hush,” Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Take It Easy Baby,” J.B. Lenoir’s “Mama Talk to Your Daughter” and includes a fascinating 13-minute interview segment with Nighthawk conducted by blues fan and scholar Norman Dayron.
