John McLaughlin is gearing up for a busy fall. As we reported in July, the legendary fusion guitarist has a fancy new CD, Thieves and Poets (Verve) with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, coming out on October 14. While the new album mixes elaborate orchestration and acoustic guitar, Johnny Mac isn’t going to tour with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie (that would cost too many Euros). Rather, he’s putting his Remember Shakti band on the road.
The group will feature McLaughlin on guitar, Zakir Hussain on tabla, V. Selvaganesh on ghatam, kanjira and maretangham and U. Shrinivas on mandolin. Remember Shaki will be joined by vocalist Shankar Mahadevan from September16 through 21.
