Oregon-based vocalist Kilgore displays on disc the camaraderie of her gigs with Dave Frishberg at the piano. Kilgore sings with a happy voice, full of erudition and charm, turning every number into a sweet explication of the American song.
Kilgore has her own voice, not tied to any jazz tradition, even when she interprets disparate numbers such as “Evenin’,” “In The Land of Oo-Blah-Dee” or “Georgia On My Mind” without any reference to swing, be-bop or blues, just her own sweet way. The album is full of other standards, all interpreted crisp and tight.
Frishberg sparkles at the piano, unencumbered by the need to accompany himself, while guitarist Dan Faehnle adds nice touches of color on a few tracks.
