Rahsaan Roland Kirk Scholarship for the Arts Established

A $12,000 scholarship has been established in the name of the late multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The $12,000 Rahsaan Roland Kirk Scholarship for the Arts, to be awarded in the musician’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio, recognizes artistic achievement and encourages the growth of the recipient as an artist. Applicants will submit portfolios in their discipline (visual art, music, theatre, multimedia or dance) to a selection committee that will narrow the field down to seven finalists. The seven will compete at a performance/exhibition in May and the winner will be announced at the event. The scholarship was established by local patrons of the arts Robert Weiler, Councilman Kevin Boyce and Jack Marchbanks and is open to high school seniors in Columbus city schools.
