The Puppini Sisters, the U.K.-based vocal trio known for its retro style, pop kitsch and crisp vocals, will perform at the Oak Room in New York’s legendary Algonquin Hotel May 29-June 9. Shows are 9 p.m. on weeknights, with additional performances at 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The cover charge is $50 per person, plus a $25 minimum (for the Friday and Saturday 9 p.m. shows, a $65 prix fix dinner is served).
The Puppini Sisters-Marcella Puppini, Kate Mullins and Stephanie O’Brien-were inspired by the Oscar-nominated film The Triplets of Belleville, and perform in the style of ’40s harmony groups. Their repertoire consists of such timeless classics as “Mr. Sandman,” “In the Mood” and “Jeepers Creepers,” but the trio also lends its style to more recent fare (relatively speaking) as Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights” and the Smiths’ “Panic.”
Verve Records recently released the group’s debut album, Betcha Bottom Dollar.
