President’s Breakfast: Bar-B-Que Dali

President’s Breakfast’s first disc anchored its explorations in funk. Bar-B -Que Dali (Disclexia, DI-028-2, 60:10) is held together by more subtle threads. Reedman Don Byron, rapper-instrumentalist Dred Scott (the leader of SF Bay-area acid jazzers Alphabet Soup), and guitarist Will Bernard (of TJ Kirk) join bassist Nate Pitts and percussionist/producer Click Dark (a.k.a. Bill Langton) for this all-improvised avant-garde set. Prepared instruments, electronic effects, “found” sounds like telephone dial tones and radio noise pop up through this disc, creating collages of images as rich and cohesive as the best from the ambient sound sculpture crowd.
